Side Dishes
This section is devoted to anything that’s not a main dish or a sweet confection. Appetizers. Salads and vegetables. Rice. Potatoes. Often overlooked, my goal is to elevate accompanying dishes to transform them from ho-hum to extraordinary.
Many side dishes are perfect to take to a potluck, party, picnic or family get-together. But don’t let that stop you from preparing a tasty side course any night of the week. A good (make that great) side dish is a wonderful compliment to a fantastic entrée.
I fondly remember fresh-cut french fries, made-from-scratch macaroni and cheese and tasty vegetables picked from our garden in my youth. Kind of “backyard to table” cooking (at least in the summer months). Freshness ruled in our house and I appreciate the lessons learned in my mother’s kitchen.
