Sweet Stuff
I adore sweets. There. I said it. Since I was a child, I have loved anything with sugar. As an adult, I try to be responsible and not indulge TOO much. But the weakness for confections is still there and most likely always will be. My mother loves desserts to this day, so I’m assuming it’s a life-long endeavor for myself as well. You’ll probably (no, definitely) be seeing quite a few sweets on our show as it’s part of my nature.
I have very fond memories as a child of helping my mother in the kitchen while she baked. I was fascinated when she peeled apples for a pie and would have one long peel from an entire apple. I was giddy with excitement when that happened, and I would eat many of the peels (a good way to get some nutrition!).
Around the holidays, our kitchen was abuzz with baking activities. Truthfully, this was a year-round venture. Our household was often filled with the aroma of cookies, pies, cakes, sweet breads, candies…the list goes on. There are many varieties to each of these goodies and we’ll be exploring more of them as we go along. I hope you’ll join me in this sweet adventure!
And remember, you can adjust (“Adaptable Cooking!”) the level of sweetness to fit your lifestyle needs, preferences and tastes. Substitutions can always be made, especially if you want or need to lower the sugar content.
